Science, Engineering, and Collaboration
NIPSCERN unites undergraduate students, researchers, and world-class scientists in the pursuit of knowledge at the edge of modern physics.
Our Mission
To integrate engineering, software development, particle physics and logic into the creation of concrete tools, architectures, and systems that support scientific research — and to prepare the next generation of scientists by involving undergraduate students directly in real experiments alongside CERN researchers.
A defining aspect of NIPSCERN is the direct involvement of undergraduate students in real CERN experiments — working side by side with international researchers on active physics analyses and detector instrumentation projects.

UFJF Laboratory Infrastructure at CERN
The NIPSCERN team operates across two sites — NIPS in Brazil and this facility at CERN, where UFJF researchers contribute directly to the ATLAS experiment.
Formerly LAPTEL — The group was originally known as LAPTEL (Signal Processing and Telecommunications Laboratory) before being renamed NIPS (Centre for Instrumentation and Signal Processing) and later NIPSCERN following the formalisation of the CERN collaboration. Our laboratory is located in the PPEE — Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering — building at UFJF.
