We are proud to announce a major milestone for NIPS-CERN: in May 2025, our laboratory coordinator Prof. Dr. Luciano Manhães de Andrade Filho and undergraduate researcher Chrysthofer Arthur Amaro Afonso, along with other collaborators from our group, were formally approved as members of the INCT CERN-Brasil.
The INCT CERN-Brasil (Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia para Física de Altas Energias com o CERN) is a Brazilian National Institute of Science and Technology established to coordinate and strengthen Brazil's scientific collaboration with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Switzerland. The INCT was approved by CNPQ in December 2022 and received its first funding in June 2023, bringing together researchers from across Brazil who contribute to CERN experiments including ATLAS, CMS, ALICE, and LHCb.
Membership in the INCT CERN-Brasil represents formal recognition of NIPS-CERN's sustained scientific contributions to high energy physics, calorimeter instrumentation, and the ATLAS TileCal detector. It also strengthens our connections with the broader Brazilian physics community and opens new avenues for collaborative research and student exchange between UFJF and partner institutions.
This approval reinforces NIPS-CERN's position as a leading Brazilian laboratory in the field of experimental particle physics and scientific computing, and underscores the impact of more than a decade of research at the frontier of modern science.
