Privacy Policy

How we handle information when you visit the NIPS-CERN website.

Last updated: March 2026

We do not collect personal information, use advertising cookies, or sell data. This is a non-commercial academic research website.

1. Who We Are

This privacy policy applies to nipscern.com, operated by NIPS-CERN — Center for Instrumentation and Signal Processing, a research group of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect no personal data. We do not have registration, login, or contact forms that store user data on our servers.

Analytics (GoatCounter): We use GoatCounter to count page visits and understand traffic patterns. GoatCounter:

  • Does not use cookies.
  • Does not collect personally identifiable information (no name, email, or device fingerprint).
  • Records only aggregated counts: page URL, referrer, browser family, country (derived from anonymised IP — the full IP address is never stored), and screen size category.
  • Is fully GDPR-compliant and requires no cookie consent banner.

You can review GoatCounter's own privacy policy at goatcounter.com/help/privacy.

3. Cookies

This website uses one first-party cookie-equivalent: a localStorage key named nipscern_lang that stores your preferred language (English, Portuguese, French, or Norwegian). This is stored exclusively in your browser, is never transmitted to our servers, and contains no personal information.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

4. Third-Party Services

The following external services are loaded when you visit this website. Each has its own privacy policy.

  • Google Fonts — serves the Inter, DM Serif Display, and JetBrains Mono typefaces. Google may log your IP address when fonts are fetched. See Google Privacy Policy.
  • unpkg CDN — serves Three.js and Phosphor Icons. May log request metadata. See unpkg.com.
  • VLibras — Brazilian Sign Language accessibility widget provided by the Brazilian Federal Government. See vlibras.gov.br.
  • GitHub — project links point to github.com. GitHub's privacy practices apply when you navigate to those pages. See GitHub Privacy Statement.
  • CERN Courier — PDF links point to cerncourier.com, operated by CERN. CERN's privacy practices apply.

5. Data Retention

Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing to retain or delete. GoatCounter stores only anonymised, aggregated counts and does not provide a mechanism to identify or remove individual visitor records.

6. Your Rights (LGPD / GDPR)

Under the Brazilian Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have rights including access, correction, and deletion of personal data held about you. Since we do not store personal data, these rights cannot practically be exercised on our end — but they remain applicable to any data processed by the third-party services listed above.

7. Children

This website is intended for university students, researchers, and the general public interested in particle physics. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date of the most recent update appears at the top of this page. Continued use of the website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

9. Contact
