Sistema Digital para Redução do Empilhamento em Medições de Energia num Detector de Partículas
Abstract
ATLAS has been developed as a general-purpose particle detector and is located at one of the collision points of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN. Currently, the LHC and its detectors are undergoing an extensive upgrade program to enable increases in collision energy and luminosity (event rate). This new scenario presents challenges for detector electronic readout systems due to increased detector occupancy, which results in pileup noise. In ATLAS, calorimeters play a major role by measuring the energy of incoming particles and assisting in the particle identification process, which is crucial for event selection. The ATLAS calorimeters comprise more than 100,000 readout channels, and as pileup increases, particle detection efficiency is significantly affected. The purpose of this work is to propose an embedded electronic system for pileup compensation in the ATLAS calorimeter system. The approach employs a bank of filters implemented using FPGA technology, and promising results are demonstrated using ATLAS simulation data.
