Sistema para Redução da Sobreposição de Sinais no Calorímetro Hadrônico do Detector ATLAS
Abstract
The LHC particle accelerator will soon undergo an upgrade process in which parameters such as collision energy and the number of particle interactions will be increased. This new scenario will directly impact detector instrumentation systems. For the ATLAS detector, a key issue arising after this upgrade in its energy measurement subsystem (the calorimeter) is the superimposition of information from consecutive events, a signal distortion known as pile-up. This work proposes a dedicated signal processing system embedded in a high-performance reconfigurable digital platform to reduce pile-up effects in the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter. The approach uses a parallel implementation of digital finite impulse response (FIR) filters, where each filter approximates the inverse of the measurement channel impulse response, effectively performing signal deconvolution. The results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed solution and its compliance with the time latency requirements of the application.
