Implementation of an Electrical Signal Compression System Using Sparce Representation
Abstract
The storage of voltage and current signals over a period of time generates a large memory demand. Therefore, signal compression techniques have become important in this context. This paper presents an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) implementation of a sparse representation algorithm using redundant dictionaries, applied to the compression of electrical signals from power systems. The representation is based on a dictionary composed of elements from the Fourier and Wavelet bases, capable of representing both stationary and transient components of electrical signals. The results are analyzed based on two parameters: the quality of the compressed signal, measured by its correlation coefficient relative to the original signal, and the number of elements in the representation, which is related to the compression ratio. The feasibility of real-time implementation is evaluated in terms of FPGA resource consumption and the required operating frequency.
