Abstract

Abstract—This work presents the development of a digital system for image acquisition capable of processing two electrical signals with amplitudes ranging from 0 to 10 V. The system correlates both signals to generate a two-dimensional histogram, where the X and Y coordinates of each event are derived from the amplitudes of the two coincident signals. The hardware consists of two analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), control electronics, and a 1M static random access memory (SRAM), implemented on a card that can be connected to a personal computer via an ISA bus. The system achieves a data acquisition rate of up to 1.0 × 10⁶ events per second, independent of the PC processor. The software was developed in the Delphi environment using Assembly routines. Image sizes can be configured from 128 × 128 to 1024 × 1024 pixels and may be visualized using three-dimensional graphics. Experimental results demonstrate the applicability of the system to two-dimensional position-sensitive X-ray detectors.
