NIPS-CERN Presents Five Papers at CBA 2026

NIPS-CERN presented five papers at the XXVI Brazilian Congress of Automatics (CBA 2026), the special 50th anniversary edition of the congress, held from 6 to 9 October at the Rebouças Convention Center in São Paulo.

This edition brought something new: a special session devoted to signal processing for instrumentation. Of the six papers in the session, presented on the afternoon of 8 October, five came from the group.

Two were presented by their own authors:

  • CGVWeb: the web modernization of the ATLAS Calorimeter Geometry Viewer (Chrysthofer A. A. Afonso).
  • Lorenzetti: continuous flow simulation of front-end signals in nuclear instrumentation (Nelson Cevidanes N. de Assis).

The other three were presented by Professor Luciano Manhães de Andrade Filho, because the students in charge of them are at CERN:

  • Deconvolution: online energy reconstruction for the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter (Melissa Santos Aguiar).
  • PZC-Wiener: energy reconstruction under high pile-up (Leandro da Graça Ribeiro).
  • LATOME: functional validation of the new firmware architecture of the ATLAS calorimeter (Dabson Ferreira dos Santos).

The trip was supported by FAPEMIG through Call 004/2026 (see the news). The five papers are in the congress proceedings and on our Publications page.

The group did not travel alone. It went to São Paulo on the UFJF bus, which took 25 students from the School of Engineering to the congress, a sign of how present the engineering school of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora is at the national conferences of the field.
