On 17 September 2026, Frédéric Dejean, of the LPNHE (Laboratoire de Physique Nucléaire et de Hautes Énergies, Sorbonne Université and CNRS), gave a seminar at the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering of UFJF, in the PPEE auditorium. The talk, Super resolution and crosstalk mitigation studies in the LAr Calorimeter, lasted about an hour and was open to the whole programme.

Both subjects sit on the readout of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter. Crosstalk is the interference between neighbouring channels that distorts the energy assigned to each cell; super resolution is the attempt to recover, with neural networks, detail finer than the segmentation of the detector itself. The seminar went through how these methods are trained and where they still fail, including the discrimination between neutral pions and photons.

The visit is a working mission of the CAPES-COFECUB INFINITE project, which links UFJF, UFBA and UFRJ to the LPNHE. Dejean spent two weeks in Juiz de Fora, from 15 to 28 September, and the seminar was only part of it: he also followed the doctoral defence of Mateus Hufnagel, on crosstalk mitigation, and worked with him on the analyses, in what is the natural handover of that line of work. From Juiz de Fora he travels on to Salvador, with the group at UFBA.

It is the first time a researcher from the LPNHE gives a seminar at the PPEE under the project, and it closes a loop that started in Paris: it was a talk by Dejean, on in-time pile-up with neural networks, that made the group propose this mission in the first place.
