On 19 August 2026 the classes of Programmable Logic Devices (CEL110-2026.3-A) and Adaptive Filters (210121-2026.3-LM), at UFJF, downloaded the stable release of SAPHO. They are the first classes to use the platform in a course. The counter has since gone past a hundred downloads.
What they installed is one file, with the AURORA IDE, the compilers, the simulators, the waveform viewers and the circuit diagram inside. The manual went up with it and follows the order of the course: Verilog, then C±, then both. The architecture is described in the reference article, in IEEE Access.
Code signing is on its way. The SignPath Foundation approved the project on 6 August and the pipeline has been tested; the licence is still with their legal team and hardware signing is being provisioned.
Before these two classes, SAPHO and AURORA spent years with the people closest to them: final-year projects, master's and doctoral work, the fractal experiments, the instrumentation at CERN. Every bug reported turned into a new release. That work continues, with papers accepted at CBA and ENMC this year.
The plan is to grow slowly: other courses at UFJF, then other programmes, and universities elsewhere later on. The project stays open source. At the end of the term both classes fill in a form on what worked and what was missing.
Our thanks to the students of both classes for going first. Learn plenty.
